Efthimia Antonopoulou is Assistant Professor in Department of Zoology, Laboratory of Animal Physiology, School of Biology, Faculty of Science, A.U.Th. She teaches under-graduate and graduate courses on Animal Physiology, Comparative and Environmental Physiology, Ichthyology-Fish Biology and Aquaculture. She has research interests on fish physiology with emphasis on neuroendocrinology and especially on reproductive biology physiology (i.e., spawning, trade offs, fecundity, hormonal control of puberty, regulation of production/secretion of gonadotropic hormones, gonadal physiology, gametogenesis, aromatization, and steroid receptors), nutrition and feeding in farmed fishes, especially on lipid metabolism (i.e., fish meal and fish oil replacement, feeding frequency, the transcriptional control of lipid metabolism in farmed fish species), molecular endocrinology (molecular characterization and control of gene expression of VLDL/vitellogenin receptor gene and peroxisome proliferator activated receptors - PPAR) and on ecophysiology especially on aquatic toxicology (i.e., effects of xenobiotic substances and heavy metals on the isolated fish heart, endocrine disruptors).
